That Got the Blood Pumping

The Heart and Stroke Foundation (HSF) committed $35 million to UBC to advance research and intervention programs already underway in British Columbia. The Research Leadership Circle (RLC) initiative is intended to accelerate progress towards the HSF goal to reduce Canada’s fatality rate from heart disease and stroke by 25 percent by 2020. The newly formed RCL is made up of 19 partner institutions and hospitals. In turn, the HSF gift is part of the $300-million national commitment to the RLC; the $35 million directed to UBC is the largest long-term funding commitment in the history of the university and the largest single gift to the Faculty of Medicine.
