Putting the Permanence in Temporary

Putting the Permanence in Temporary

After less than a year of construction, the Temporary Energy Centre (TEC) is up – and reducing. As a critical milestone in the Academic District Energy System (ADES) project, the TEC allows UBC to ‘energize’ the first half of the comprehensive ADES plan and start reducing greenhouse gases and operating costs a full 18 months before the full project’s completion. Set on University Boulevard and between the Neville Scarfe and Henry Angus buildings, the TEC is a physical reminder of UBC’s initiative to reduce thermal energy use by 24 percent and cut greenhouse-gas emissions by 22 percent or what is the equivalent of taking 2,000 cars off the road.
