Good Bye, Stephen, Hello, Arvind

Renowned expert in research and innovation policies, highly regarded for his ability to forge close collaborations between academia, civil society and the business world, Dr. Arvind Gupta was appointed the 13th president and vice chancellor of UBC. Gupta left his position as CEO and scientific director of Mitacs, a not-for-profit internationally recognized for ‘nurturing the next generation of research and business-savvy investors’.

Gupta succeeded Professor Stephen Toope. Having ably served UBC for eight years, Toope stepped down in late June and with the thanks and gratitude of his friends, faculty and the entire campus. Or as Gupta noted: “I have the privilege of taking the baton from Professor Toope who has guided UBC to a strong position. We have exciting days ahead and I relish the opportunity.”
