Doctors in the Datum
Millions of patients in the medical-care data bases, served by many dozens of hospitals, labs, research centres tied into thousands of medical practitioners province wide; it’s a lot of files, faces and datum in constant flux. Anything that can be done to streamline the services and identify the redundancies and inefficiencies is a ‘cure’ worth seeking. Sauder’s new Centre for Operations Research and Analytics in Health (CORAH) opened to leverage what CORAH Director and Associate Professor Steven Shechter calls Sauder’s “considerable research and data-driven analytical approaches to improve healthcare processes.” By collecting and analyzing the operational data from myriad sources, new cost efficiencies and medical bottlenecks will be identified and the solutions implemented to improve the systems and medical outcomes not only to save money but also to save lives.
