Vigour and Variety: Varsity Sports

Following a two-stage assessment, UBC announced the results of the sports review of the 29 Vancouver campus varsity teams; 24 teams made the cut, retaining varsity status. The remaining five teams became UBC competitive clubs. During the review fans and community supporters showed their own belief in varsity sports, pledging $4.8 million to help strengthen campus teams. President Stephen Toope said the review not only “re-energized support” for the teams, the community support underlines the teams’ popularity, on and off campus: “We’ve heard them [the community] and we look forward to seeing this translated into solid action in the months ahead.”
